WKC World Championships

The World Karate Council has just started holding an annual world championship. The first of which was held in Dublin, Ireland. Phoenix Karate Association were represented there by Ray McKenzie, Ryan Haden and Kieran Haden.

WKC World Championships 2009 - Dublin, Ireland

Between November the 1st and November the 4th, the world kickboxing and karate championship was held in Dublin, Ireland. Ryan Haden and Kieran Haden, from the Phoenix Leeds club, along with myself, Ray McKenzie, competed in the light contact and semi contact division.

Kieran had a tough fight against a top Canadian fighter to lose in the second round of the junior men's section. Ryan fought in the heavyweight section and claimed victories against English and Canadian competitors to reach an all England final. Ryan lost to the eventual winner however claimed his first bronze medal.

I was fighting in the veteran semi-contact section, where I fought competitors from America and Ireland to reach the Final. I dominated the fight convincingly to take another world title.
